so...how is it going?

I am asked that question frequently when it comes to Ky and his potty training. I am happy to say that it has gone quite well. I would say that within the first two weeks, he had pretty much mastered the skill. He is staying dry and nap time and is now wearing his big boy undies during his rest. He has been dry at night too and we will soon try for the big boy undies at night rather than a pull-up.

With that being said, this would not quite be a VanderWoude tale if the story simply ended there. Life should only be so simple. During nap last week I heard a lot of commotion going on upstairs. Frustrated with the fact that Ky was still not asleep, I went upstairs and found him sitting on the bathroom floor trying very carefully to put his big boy undies back on. I noticed some rather strange markings throughout my bathroom that had not been there earlier.

"Ky (said with emphasis), did you poop?"
"Yes, and my wiped"

"KYAN DAVID! YOU DID NOT WIPE!!!!" (as I am looking at the toilet seat and the floor which are streaked with poop...I mean, I guess technically he did wipe, he wiped with the toilet seat and the floor, just not the toilet paper!)

"Yes, my DID!" still apparently unaware of the fact that he is surrounded by poop stains!

As I stood looking at my son in the poopy bathroom, wanting to cry, scream do something...all I could do was laugh and say, "hold still...I am going to get my camera."

Question my parenting, that's okay. Perhaps it wasn't the best idea to leave my son in his disaster while I sought out my camera. But I NEEEDED to capture this moment. Because one day, I just may need it as leverage.
