the great heist

Koby came downstairs this afternoon while I was working in the basement and presented me with two cars. "Kyan took these from the haircut place" he stated.

"Impossible," I replied "his hands were empty when we left." Thinking that Koby's guilty conscious had gotten the better of him I asked, "Koby did YOU take those from the haircut place?" "NO MOM! HONESTLY!" Now honesty is one thing I stress time and time again with Koby. Kev and I always tell him that although you will always have a consequence for your actions, the consequences are much better when you tell the truth than if you tell a lie. That being said, I wanted desperately to believe him, but could not comprehend how those cars would have made it to the car, in our house and me not know about it until 3 days later. I had to wait until Ky got up from his nap.

After his nap and once I was sure he was alert, I approached Ky with the two cars. Holding them in my hand I simply asked, "Ky, where did these cars come from?" He looked at me with his big blue eyes, deep in thought. I wondered, does he understand the question? Surely he will not be able to tell these two cars apart from the bizillion of match box cars we have in the playroom. "Haircut place" he replied.

I couldn't believe it. My two year old is officially a fellon! How did Houdini do it? "Kyan, how did these cars get to our house?" Looking at me as innocently as one could possible look having just been caught red handed, "In your purse" he responded.

Not knowing whether to laugh or cry, realizing that I have now been made an accessory to the crime, I tell Ky that tomorrow we will go back to the haircut place and return the cars to their rightful owner. Hopefully we will not have to serve any jail time!

clone wars and kyan

Yesterday was the big release of the new Star Wars movie, The Clone Wars. This has been a much anticipated event in our household. Not so much for Kev, Ky or myself, but for Koby, this is a major deal. He has been asking about August 15th for weeks, if not months. In preparation for the big event, Koby picked out a clone wars tshirt a while back at Kohls and has had it hanging in a special place in his closet, yet to be worn, until today. This afternoon, Koby, decked out in his special tshirt, with Dad in tow, headed to the theater. After about 2 hours they returned, filled with popcorn and pop and mixed reviews of the flick. Koby enjoyed it, although he felt "it was much longer than I thought!" and Kev, well, let's just say, has little desire to add this one to our collection. As far as movies go, not so great. As far as a marketing ploy to sell millions of dollars in action figures, apparel and other Star Wars paraphernalia...SUPERB!

As for Ky and myself, we stayed home and played. We swung, played with trucks in the sandbox and swam. We came inside to take care of some diaper business when I noticed Kev's camera on the counter. Not being one to pass up an opportunity, I grabbed it and snapped a couple of shots of my bleach blond baby boy.

kindergarten

Today is the big day, first day of kindergarten for Koby. I know as I write this the tears will inevitably start to flow. You know, everyone always says how fast this time goes and today that is really starting to sink in for me. In fact, this morning I even thought for a breif moment that perhaps home schooling would be a good idea! I feel like we, as moms, invest so much of ourselves in our children and when they leave, and yes, even just to kindergarten, you feel like a piece of you has left too. (Kyan is literally bouncing off the walls right now, hard to imagine that I could feel anything is missing other than my sanity). Anyways, back to kindergarten. Koby actually had a fever yesterday of 101. I just pray that he feels okay at school today. He was in good spirits this morning. Here is the official first day of kindergarten photo:

and one of the new Star Wars Clone Wars backpack (his idea of this pic)

Koby was a little nervous this morning that he was going to miss the bus. We headed out about 10 minutes before his schduled pick up. No worries, the bus pulled up, and he took off and almost forgot my reminder to turn around and smile for yet another picture.

Ky and I followed the bus to school so I could make sure that all was well after his approximate 2 minute bus ride. Of course, he came off the bus smiling with his cousin Riley right by his side. Riley was giving Koby a few pointers on how to be successful in school (yeah right, you know they were discussing Star Wars!)

Once in the building and after some brief instruction on the proper ediquette of hallway behavior, Koby set off to locate his locker again. I tried to stand back and let him figure it out, but after a couple of glances back at me and a somewhat panicked look on his face, I jumped in. He has already been to his locker several times during our past visits to the school, but for some reason today it was a bit more difficult (perhaps because of the 40 some odd swarming kindergarten bodies all trying simultaneously to locate their lockers).

As I sit here, my tears have been replaced with a smile. Koby is going to be just fine (and so will I)

white pine trail

Today we decided to go on an adventure and ride our bikes on the White Pine Trail from Belmont to Rockford. It is a 4 mile journey, one way. So for a five year old, this was indeed an adventure. We ate a picnic lunch at the Rogue River Park near some very large boulders, which the boys thought were very cool. After lunch, I took the car up to Rockford and hitched a ride back to the park to meet the boys. We figured 4 miles was probably plenty for our first trip. So we mounted our bikes and had not even crossed over the parking lot when we hear, "Miss...Miss" One of the Trail Patrol men was getting ready to head on the trail when he noticed I had a bit of a flat rear tire. He was so kind to pump it up for me so I wouldn't have to struggle with a flat tire plus a 30 plus pound two year old attached to the rear of my bike. How generous! So off we went. The White Pine Trail is part to the rails to trails system that runs from GR all the way up to Cadillac. It is paved and filled with nautural beauty. We had such a great time. We arrived in Rockford about 30 minutes later, no tears, no injuries, no complaining! WOW!!!! We loaded our bikes up and then went on a walk through downtown Rockford. We stopped at the dam, a toy store and Rocky's for some ice cream.

We stopped by the campground on our way home to do a little fishing while Ky took a little snooze in Papa Briggs' trailer. Unfortunately, no big ones today. However, Koby and Kev did manage to score quite a few little guys.

It was such a perfect day and a perfect end to summer! What?? End of summer?? It's officially official....Koby's first day of Kindergarten is tomorrow. More on that later......

holland beach

On Tuesday the boys and I, along with Nama Briggs and my Aunt Barb, went out to the home my aunt is building on Lake Michigan. What a place! She is building right on a dune above the lake so we had our very own private access to the beach and lake. It was great! We spent the afternoon riding the waves, building castles and of course, eating! It was so much fun spending a relaxed afternoon together. Ky was a bit hesitant of the big lake at first, but after a bit we were crashing in the waves together. We are so looking forward now to our next trip to the lake.

kindergarten, pictures and camp rock

Today was Koby's first day of Kindergarten, although I prefer to call it the first "unofficial day of Kindergarten". It was only an hour and a half long and Kevin and I were both with him. We worked at a few centers together and then he had a tour and some recess time while the parents had time with the teacher. Today, no big deal. Monday....(the first official day of Kindergarten), well that may be another story.

Here are a couple of pics we took before church this weekend. Kev picked out some coordinating outfits for the three of them and I, of course, could not pass up such a Kodak moment.

Ky has become slightly obsessed with the new Disney movie, Camp Rock. He borrowed his cousin Kali's cd and insists of listening to the song, This is Me (or as he calls it, Need to find You) too often for me to count. This weekend Kals gave Ky her Camp Rock tshirt to for him to borrow. He is currently wearing it to bed and couldn't be more excited. Check it out...
